In the 21st century, changes in technology have revolutionised the world of traditional book publishing and selling. Computers, e-readers, tablets, smart phones and the internet have also changed the way that writers can publish, market and sell their work.
But there's a knack to self-publishing and distributing your book. I have spent the last few years learning the knack by testing and trialing various options and now offer workshops in which I pass on this know-how.
GROUP WORKSHOPS
I offer the following group workshops as stand-alone workshops or in combination.

TESTIMONIALS
NELSON WORKSHOPS NOVEMBER 2019: WENDY SCOTT’S WORKSHOPS – REPORT TOS Newsletter: Top of the South branch Secretary, Jean Gorman, excerpt: "Following feedback that members would like workshops on Writing and Marketing, NZSA Top of the South branch hosted two workshops by multi-award-winning author Wendy Scott in Richmond last weekend. Those who attended had a great day and came out buzzing! We spent a most enjoyable three hours bouncing ideas around. Next time we entice Wendy from her hideout in Hokitika, do come along!" AUTHOR TALK - BLENHEIM NOVEMBER 2019: "Your workshop attendees will appreciate what Wendy Scott has to offer you in her talk about marketing books on the internet. There were 15 of us there on the 19th. Younger people have a natural nous about how to go fossicking around to find the best and most useful sites on the net, which us older ones can't match. It was great to have Wendy's information passed on." TOS Newsletter, Marlborough Writers Convenor Annette Rattray WORDS ON PAGE WORKSHOP GREYMOUTH 2019: WEST COAST WRITERS’ REPORT FOR THE YEAR, TOS Newsletter. West Coast Writers convenor Katrina Brown: "West Coast Writers has had a busy, productive year, with two workshop series with the fabulous writer and mentor Wendy Scott, and members really getting into their current projects as a result of these workshops." WORKSHOP (6 sessions) Greymouth & Hokitika 2019: How To Write a Fiction Novel "Wendy's 'How to Write a Fiction Novel' workshop gives an in-depth view into the entire novel writing process. It was informative, fun and interesting. I came away from it with a new way to look at the way I write. The course has given me the confidence and knowledge to take me to the publishing stage and beyond." Arianna S WORKSHOP JAN 2014 NELSON: BREAKING INTO PRINT Creative Journeys Summer School (co-hosted with Ro Cambridge) "The one-on-one mentor session was especially valuable … you gave me next steps for my own personal project. I feel more empowered than before and see my publishing options now as a reality" Fred R WORKSHOP MARCH 2014 NELSON: SELF-PUBLISHING Top of the South Branch of the New Zealand Society of Authors “Wendy showed us how to promote ourselves as writers, whether we will publish ‘traditionally’ or do it ourselves. She showed us all tools to use to create a profile of our own and make it work for us" Annika O "There was an incredibly contented vibe in the air at the end of each day - we were really learning lots! Such a lot of good information, experience and advice you passed on to us. You explained in detail all the possible avenues for publishing, and I think your one-on-one interviews on the last day were really helpful –you gave us specific guidance on which route was best for our own work. Ro Cambridge’s day on web-site creation was synergistic with your classes too" Christine H June 2016 Nelson NZ Society of Authors (Top of the South Branch)
I was invited to speak about my award winning book, Hieroglyph. Earbuds & cartouches - how an idea evolved into a story. Thanks to a lovely audience. Wendy Scott, one of the keynote speakers for the Picton Writers' Forum. |
