A: Wendy, let me start with one of my quotes: ‘He who complains the most in RRBC, supports the least.’ Each week (for some seats) and each month (for major seats), members of our board go “hunting” warm bodies to feel the awesome seats in the RRBC house. It is truly a daunting task when we have almost 400 members, yet, each month, it’s hard for us to fill less than 10 seats. To those who say it seems the same members are being pushed over and over again, well, let me quickly dispel that rumor as we have a 90 day waiting period between major seat holdings. This means, if you were…say, a Book of the Month winner in June, you would have to wait a full 90 days before you held another major seat such as “SPOTLIGHT” Author (SA), Member of the Month (MOM) or #PUSHTUESDAY (#PT). But, you could hold a smaller seat in the house such as Member of the Week (MOW), President’s Pick or again, a #PUSHTUESDAY win. Those seats don’t require the same rule as holding one of the more coveted seats. Although, any seat in the RRBC house is an awesome place to be! If more members would show just a little support of their fellow members, our job wouldn’t be so hard. We want all of our members to be supported! We want all of our members to run out into the world and tell other authors and readers how great our support is! And, we want this for ALL our members. There are no cliques in RRBC, but what there is, is a core-group of members who take the time to engage with other members, they spend time on the site, familiarizing themselves with other members and their books, they visit their blogs and social media sites and they follow them there, supporting them. There are just so many ways that these members are recognized and others can be recognized just the same.
Q: There are a multitude of characteristics by which we judge others, so could you give me two that you value above all else, naming the most important one first?
A: I value Loyalty above all else. In second place with me, HONESTY is at the top of the list.
Q: Some say that Hate is such a strong word, so how about I use the word detest, instead. Is there any one thing that you detest above all else?
A: Yes! I HATE dis-loyalty! And yes, I heard the question clearly.
Q: You have surrounded yourself with an amazing TEAM on the RRBC board. This question might make you uncomfortable but I just have to ask, who is the one board member that you work with every day that you would say is the most Loyal to you?
A: Although we can never be 100% sure of anything, I first must say that I trust my entire TEAM. I “think” that they are all loyal to me…and I hope and pray that they are. But, the one person who I know for sure would stand in front of me and take a virtual bullet, would be Marlena Smith. Her life has transitioned a few times in the past year or so, and her life-transitioning has made me tired (LOL…she knows what I mean) and has caused me great concern at times, but her support and loyalty has never wavered. NEVER! She is loyal to me to a fault, and that says an awful lot about her character and the kind of person she is. There should be more Marlenas in this world and honestly and in all seriousness, I wish a Marlena for everyone! I love her dearly!
Q: This next question is two-fold. Your RRBC board has transitioned a few times and then there are those who have been there since the beginning. Why the transitions? And, out of all your board members who serve now and served before, who is/was the one you least expected to last?
A: Wendy, I first must say that I have made a few mistakes in the selection of a few board members in the past, but I won’t take all the credit there. I typically (if it’s someone we’re really not familiar with) run them by the board for their opinions on possible additions to our board family. I do this, because we are a close-knit group and we work very closely together, so if any of them ever had a reservation about someone, then that someone probably wouldn’t make it onto our board. Some of our dear board members just retired from the board for a variety of reasons (health, overload, personal, etc.) but what you all don’t know, is that in a pinch, those retired board members are working behind the scenes helping out in a lot of areas! That’s called not burning any bridges (on either side). When you leave in a “clean” way, if you ever want to return, you always can, and whenever you’re needed, you’re always there to be called upon. But, RRBC is not a mom and pop operation so just like in any corporate environment, there will be transitioning in, as well as transitioning out. It’s all just a part of that environment.
Out of all the ones who have come and the ones who have gone, Michelle Abbott is the one I expected to not last. I’m not saying anything she hasn’t heard before, because we laugh about this all the time (so close your mouths, people. There is no drama here!). I love Michelle! She is the kindest, sweetest heart you ever want to meet, but, sadly, I thought she’d be the first to go. I don’t know why I felt that she wouldn’t last, but boy was I wrong! Michelle makes you feel as if you’re in the BIG BROTHER HOUSE and you’re in the final 4, and she’s the one expected to leave first out of the four, but in the end, she wins the entire game…the entire million dollar prize (and she doesn’t even offer to split it with you! LOL). It’s enough to make you want to call Beem in for a drive-by! LOL. But seriously, she’s such a hard worker and so dedicated, and all I ever hear her say is, “Nonnie, whatever you feel is best for the club.” How can you not love and respect that in someone? Character. You don’t have to say a word to tell people who you are and how you are. She’s also the quietest one of the bunch, meaning she doesn’t make as much noise as the rest of us. Yayyyyy, Mims!!!! I adore her so much!!!! And I adore you, Wendy! Thanks for hosting me today!
