Kia ora, to author Jan Sikes - one of the friendliest & loveliest ladies on the internet!
I want to begin the tour by talking about how this story came into being.
I have been practicing some form of meditation since the early seventies. It is a part of my everyday life, even if it’s no more then ten minutes.
I distinctly remember, it was a Sunday morning, and I had time for a longer meditation, since I didn’t have to be anywhere. As I often do, I went to YouTube and searched for a guided meditation. One particular by-line grabbed my attention. It said the meditation was for the purpose of transforming negative energy into positive. While I didn’t have any kind of negative emotion weighing me down, it appealed to me, so I clicked on it.
During the process of the meditation, the narrator asked the listener to visualize an island that was covered with thistles, thorns, poisonous flowers, all sorts dangerous creatures and other unpleasant things. Then he encouraged you to place yourself on this island. After you could see yourself there, by using the power of visualization, he asked that you begin to transform the island into a beautiful paradise.
As I went deeper into the meditation, I saw a young man arrive on this island and I knew his name was Jonah. I also knew that he was sent to this island as a form punishment and that’s all I knew about him. But it was enough to give birth to the story idea. I began writing it that same day.
Many times, during the process of writing the story, I returned to the island that I’d visualized during the meditation to draw from the vivid scenes it brought to mind.
This is just one example of the power of meditation. If it’s something that you regularly practice, you will immediately know what I’m talking about. If not, I’d like to encourage you to try it sometime. Go to YouTube, find one that appeals to you, and dive in. It can only enhance your life.
In the meantime, I’d be honored if you’d pick up your copy of JONAH and take the transformational journey with him!
Fantasy meets reality when a young man is forced to choose his punishment for crimes committed. Jonah must decide between imprisonment in a concrete box beneath the earth or be exiled to a deserted, barren island. He chooses the island, but nothing can prepare him for the deadly creatures, and poisonous plants at every turn. Then there’s the maddening isolation that drives him to the brink of insanity. There is only one way off this island and it’s more difficult than anything he’s ever imagined. It’s much easier to face mortal danger than the demons within. Will Jonah find redemption, or another unexpected offer?
Jan Sikes openly admits that she never set out in life to be an author. But she had a story to tell. Not just any story, but a true story that rivals any fiction creation. You simply can’t make this stuff up. It all happened. She chose to create fictitious characters to tell the story through, and they bring the intricately woven tale to life in an entertaining way.
She released a series of music CDs to accompany the four biographical fiction books and then published a book of poetry and art to bring the story full circle.
And now that the story is told, this author can’t find a way to put down the pen. She continues to write fiction and has published many short stories with a series of novels waiting in the wings. She is a member of Authors Marketing Guild, The Writer’s League of Texas, the RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB (RRBC), the RAVE WRITER’S INT’L SOCIETY OF AUTHOR (RWISA), sits on the RWISA Executive Council and hosts a monthly RAVE WAVES blog talk radio show, ASPIRE TO INSPIRE.
