KAREN BLACK
Reading and English were my favorite school subjects and on tests, essay questions were my favorite. I had several pen pals and couldn’t get enough of reading and writing letters.
Publishing a book wasn’t on my agenda until an author encouraged me to try. He was a friend who had contributed to several anthologies and asked me to read a story he was working on for an upcoming publication. We discussed plots and storylines, and somehow the conversation morphed into his suggestion that I write a short story. Suggest isn’t accurate. He dared me to write a story and submit it for consideration to be included in an anthology, and so I did. That was ten years ago. Since then, I’ve published several short stories, an anthology, a novel, and have contributed to several publications. The moral of the story is that if you love to write, do it. If you aren’t sure if you love to write, try it.
